Art, Wilderness and Terra Nullius

Ever since my first trip to the Kimberley region of Western Australia in 2012 I have been focused on understanding the implications of Langton's research on cultural landscapes.  I was introduced to the concept of "country" and what it means to those who inhabit these places.  The idea of Keeping Country means to protect a way of life, a language, totems and Dreamtimes. And in the Kimberley their inhabitation of this land dates back 35,000 years based on dated rock art.  
Most of my creative work has occurred outside the US since then.  These distant cultural landscapes have a purity and history than I can learn from and experience things not possible here in the US.  I always look for the edge...
