Artist Statement

​

Encountering one of the largest mining complexes in the world from the air is more than breathtaking.  The sheer size of the iron ore, salt, oil and gas  infrastructure is a tribute to human ingenuity and the demand by India and China to industrialize their economies.  The goal of this project is to show both the beauty and scale of this region of Western Australia.  Some might find mining the earth to advance human development to be a bad thing.  But from a more enlightened perspective the capacity for humans to find, develop, export these natural resources is a tribute to our creativity to meet society's needs.  I hope these revelatory images show the power of humans to solve the most complex problems facing us.
